Measuring Guide

To ensure a perfect fit for your new catio, accurate measurements are essential. Please follow these guidelines to measure your space effectively:

1

Tools Needed

Gather a tape measure, a pen, and paper to record your measurements. A smartphone may also be useful for taking photos or notes.

2

Measurement Units

Measurements can be taken in feet, metres, millimetres, or centimetres—whichever you prefer or is most convenient for you.

3

What to Measure

Carefully measure the length, width, and height of the designated area where the catio will be installed. Be sure to note each dimension accurately.

4

Observation

Pay close attention to any potential obstructions such as downpipes, pipes, or fixtures that may impact the installation or design.

5

Recording

Write down all measurements clearly and double-check for accuracy before submitting your details.

Some Useful Top Tips

Top Tips for Your Catio

Create the perfect outdoor space for your feline friend with these enrichment ideas
  • Install Multi-Level Shelving

Cats love to climb and observe from height. Add sturdy shelves at different levels to create vertical territory and give your cat multiple vantage points to survey their outdoor kingdom.

  • Add Scratching Posts & Surfaces

Include weather-resistant scratching posts and sisal-wrapped surfaces. This satisfies natural scratching instincts and helps cats mark their territory whilst keeping their claws healthy.

  • Include Cat-Safe Plants

Plant cat grass, catnip, or valerian in pots within the catio. These provide sensory enrichment and safe nibbling options. Ensure all plants are non-toxic to cats and suitable for UK weather.

  • Create Cosy Hideaways

Add enclosed boxes, tunnels, or covered platforms where cats can retreat and feel secure. These are essential for cats who need quiet time or shelter from UK rain and wind.

  • Hang Interactive Toys

Suspend feather toys, balls, or puzzle feeders from the catio roof. Moving toys stimulate hunting instincts and provide mental stimulation, keeping your cat engaged and active.

  • Install Ramps & Walkways

Connect different levels with ramps or narrow walkways. This encourages exercise and exploration whilst being accessible for older cats or those with mobility issues.

  • Provide Comfortable Perches

Place cushioned platforms or hammocks in sunny spots. Cats spend hours lounging and sunbathing, so comfortable resting areas are essential for their wellbeing and relaxation.

  • Add Weather Protection

Include a covered section with a roof to protect from British rain and provide shade. Consider adding clear panels to maintain views whilst keeping your cat dry and comfortable year-round.
